When Marguerite had first been told she was pregnant, she stayed lock in her room for days. To her, it seemd as a final step in this is your life now, get used to it She didnt want this life. A life of parties and social gatherings
a life as Lord Becketts wife. Now she was going to be the mother of his child!
Every day she missed her beloved Pearl more and more, and her dear friends who were aboard it. But mostly she missed those she had left in Port Royal a year ago. Elizabeth had recently been married to Victor Hamilton, and he was claiming Edward as his own son to the public eye, but they all knew it was Jacks son. James, she had missed James most of all. His arms around her waist, his touch against her skin. His voice, his smell...everything. She began to feel like her memories were fading, she did all she could to keep them with her, but it was getting more and more difficult. She had not spoken to him in two years, she only hoped he was living a better life than she was.
She had written to Elizabeth that night, the paper was stained in her tears, but she managed to finish it.
My Dear E.
My friend, I miss you more and more everyday. London is beginning to get cold, I can feel my first winter in years slowly approaching. How are you doing? How is Toby? Lord Beckett and I are not as hostile towards each other as we once were, in fact the opposite.
Elizabeth, I regret to tell you this. I am pregnant with his child. I am going to be giving Lord Beckett a child by early summer. I feel sick on the inside, I don't know what to think either. If it had been any other man but Beckett, I would not be wishing I was dead right now. I seriously hope your life is going better than mine. Give Toby a kiss and Victor a hug for me, I miss you all very much.
Love,
Marguerite
She quickly paid a messenger boy to have it on the next ship to Port Royal. She only hoped her friend had read all her letters. Marguerite had only received so many replies. She kept Elizabeths letters in her vanity, and whenever she and Cutler would get into an arugement she pulled them out and read them. Words like I love you and I cant wait to see you again were not sentences used often in this marrige.
